Originally conceived as an addition to a 1950s architect-designed split-level home, the project evolved into a complete rebuild due to unforeseen structural issues. The new design retains the spirit of the original, reinterpreting its defining elements through a contemporary lens. A new upper level accommodates the primary suite, office, and deck, and is expressed as cantilevered volumes that extend in two directions, echoing the home’s earlier form. Clear-stained cedar cladding softens the geometry, while inset planes of bluestone provide contrast and depth. Inside, a restrained palette of white walls, rift-cut oak, and bluestone is paired with varied ceiling heights and carefully placed windows to create a sense of openness, light, and connection to the outdoors.
